چکیده

This paper describes algorithms for a mobile robot with sparse, short-range sensing to create a topological map of an unknown environment. While a limited array of sensors is appealing from the standpoint of having simpler and cheaper hardware, mapping is more difficult because the robot cannot guarantee it will detect obstacles as soon as they enter its sensing range. Thus, the robot’s mapping strategy must ensure that all relevant parts of the environment are observed. Our approach constructs topological maps based on the SGVD∞, a version of the saturated generalized Voronoi diagram defined under the L∞ distance metric, which is well-suited to robots with sparse sensing. We first describe behaviors that allow a robot with an omnidirectional short-range sensor to trace the SGVD∞, and then extend these behaviors to the sparse sensing case by introducing a “virtual sensor” that tracks unseen obstacles and emulates the output of the omnidirectional sensor. We show that our behaviors are complete for the problem of mapping an arbitrary rectilinear environment. We have implemented the mapping behaviors and report the results of simulated experiments.

Frames for compressed sensing using coherence

We give some new results on sparse signal recovery in the presence of noise, for weighted spaces. Traditionally, were used dictionaries that have the norm equal to 1, but, for random dictionaries this condition is rarely satised. Moreover, we give better estimations then the ones given recently by Cai, Wang and Xu.

Accelerating Magnetic Resonance Imaging through Compressed Sensing Theory in the Direction space-k

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive imaging method widely used in medical diagnosis. Data in MRI are obtained line-by-line within the K-space, where there are usually a great number of such lines. For this reason, magnetic resonance imaging is slow. MRI can be accelerated through several methods such as parallel imaging and compressed sensing, where a fraction of the K-space lines...

Efficient Topological Mapping with Image Sequence Partitioning

Topological maps are vital for fast and accurate localization in large environments. Sparse topological maps can be constructed by partitioning a sequence of images acquired by a robot, according to their appearance. All images in a partition have similar appearance and are represented by a node in a topological map. In this paper, we present a topological mapping framework which makes use of i...

Mapping with Micro Aerial Vehicles by Registration of Sparse 3D Laser Scans

Micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) pose specific constraints on onboard sensing, mainly limited payload and limited processing power. For accurate 3D mapping even in GPS denied environments, we have designed a light-weight 3D laser scanner specifically for the application on MAVs. Similar to other custom-built 3D laser scanners composed of a rotating 2D laser range finder, it exhibits different point...
